File Reader by UJ Studio is built from the ground up as a strictly 100% offline utility. We do not collect, store, transmit, track, or sell any of your personal data, documents, files, or device identifiers. There are no analytics, no ads, and no external servers.
1. Overview & Architecture
This Privacy Policy applies to the File Reader mobile and desktop applications developed and published by UJ Studio (accessible via https://ujstudio.org).
File Reader is a universal file viewer supporting over 260+ file formats (including PDF, Microsoft Office documents, spreadsheets, presentations, eBooks, source code, archives, audio, and video). The application operates under a strict Local-Execution Architecture, meaning all file parsing, rendering, and indexing occur solely inside your device’s volatile memory (RAM).
2. Information We Do NOT Collect
No Personal Identification
We do not ask for, collect, or store your name, email address, phone number, location, or credentials.
No File Telemetry or Content
Your files, document text, images, and folders never leave your physical device.
Zero Network Permissions
The application manifest deliberately omits the internet permission (android.permission.INTERNET). It is technically incapable of establishing an outbound network connection.
Zero Third-Party Tracking
No Google Analytics, Firebase, Facebook SDK, Crashlytics, AdMob, or commercial trackers are integrated.
3. Device Permissions & Why They Are Required
To perform its core function as a file manager and document viewer, File Reader requests minimal local operating system permissions:
- READ_MEDIA_IMAGES & READ_MEDIA_VIDEO (Android 13+): Allows the app to index, display thumbnails, and render image and video files you choose to view.
- READ_MEDIA_AUDIO (Android 13+): Allows you to browse, play, and navigate local audio tracks and recordings.
- READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED (Android 14+): Supports Android 14 partial media access when you grant selective access to specific files.
- READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE (Android 12 and below): Used on older Android versions strictly to read user-selected documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX, EPUB, etc.) from local storage.
Note: File Reader does NOT request or use write permissions, full disk control (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE), camera, microphone, or location permissions.
4. Local Processing & WebView Isolation
Office formats (DOCX, XLSX, PPTX) and EPUB eBooks are rendered using an embedded, sandboxed WebView. All rendering assets (mammoth.js, xlsx.js, epub.js) are bundled locally inside the application binary. Outbound network requests inside the WebView are permanently blocked at the engine level with blockNetworkLoads = true and strict Content Security Policies (CSP).
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Because no data is ever transmitted to external servers, there is no remote data retention. Any local preferences (e.g., your selected theme, recent files list, bookmarks) are stored strictly in your device's private app sandbox. Uninstalling the application immediately and permanently removes all stored app preferences.
6. Children's Privacy
File Reader does not target, address, or collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13 (or any other age group). It is a passive, offline utility designed for all users.
7. Policy Updates & Contact
If this privacy policy is updated, the new version will be published on this URL with an updated revision date.
